Buchan Offshore Wind Concludes Metocean Campaign

Buchan Offshore Wind, the 1GW floating offshore wind project 75km to the northeast of Fraserburgh, has concluded its metocean and LIDAR surveys, with survey specialist Partrac recently recovering the project LIDAR and seabed instrumentation.

The two-year metocean and Floating LiDAR (FLiDAR) campaign has seen the project collect data required for the project’s environmental impact assessment (EIA) and detailed design work.

The FLiDAR, which was deployed in November 2022, was supplied by EOLOS, with BrightWind providing third party quality assurance.

The project team will now finalise the collated datasets, which will form a key input to the next stage of the project’s engineering design.

Speaking on the conclusion of the campaign, Clare Lavelle, Project Director, Buchan Offshore Wind, said:

"The metocean survey campaign is a key part of the development process and we are delighted to reach this significant milestone for the project, with all equipment recovered from the site.

“The data gathered confirms that the site benefits from a tremendous wind resource and also supports us in progressing at pace with maturing our engineering design development.

“The project team is now working on finalising our environmental assessments ahead of us submitting our consent applications in the middle of this year.
